Britt Orchestra / Storm Large / Julio Elizalde

Aug 15, 2014
08:00 pm - 10:00 pm

This program offers dark cabaret, jazz and folk inspired music—a cornucopia of American sounds.

Opening with John Kander's Overture to the Broadway hit Chicago, the program's feature work is Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins.

Soprano Storm Large (at Britt last summer with Pink Martini) will bring to life Weill's multi-dimensional character of Anna as she travels to seven American cities on a quest. Everything good and sincere meets with failure; everything devious and money-grubbing meets with success. A dark and ironic commentary on the faults of capitalism and how it can turn virtues into vice, this performance is sure to be stunning with the sultry voice and theatrical presence of Ms. Large who made her Carnegie Hall debut performing it with the Detroit Symphony in 2013.
