Southern Oregon Classic - The Party of the Year! July 15th/16th

The Southern Oregon Classic

The newest and biggest charitable event—brought to you by all of us at Southern Oregon Magazine!

Welcome to the next big thing to hit Southern Oregon. Coming this summer, July 15 and 16 of 2016 to be exact, is Southern Oregon Magazine’s own event—The Southern Oregon Classic—showcasing the area’s best when it comes to culinary, wine and golf. This two-day non-profit event is the must-do event of 2016.

This new event is operated by us here at Southern Oregon Magazine. We are also the founders and current operators of Oregon's largest golf and culinary event that attracts over 1800 people to the dinner alone, The Ghost Tree Invitational, held in Bend at Pronghorn Resort every August for the last 10 years running.

The Southern Oregon Classic kicks off July 15 with a double shotgun golf tournament at the famed Centennial Golf Club in Medford where groups will enjoy great golf, tee prizes, food and competition. Golf World recently honored centennial as one of the Top 50 Golf Courses in the U.S. With a.m. and p.m. shotguns for both gross and net divisions, choose what works best for your schedule. Tee prizes and gifts will be given to each player, in addition we will have hole sponsors spread throughout the course serving drinks and food on select tee boxes. Players will enjoy a continental breakfast for the morning round and a BBQ lunch for both tee times between rounds. On course prizes will consist of closest to the pin contests on par three holes, longest drives for men and women, a skins game and more.

Saturday night July 16 is the main event—presenting The Feast—and will be the party of the summer. It is open to the public, not just golf participants, and will feature culinary delights from 12 local and regional chefs, 10 wineries, spirits, beer, dancing, a silent auction and a live band. For our launch, we didn’t find just any live band, but Grammy Award-winning artist Lonnie Chapin and his band Precious Byrd will get you out on the dance floor. Up to a thousand guests will enjoy small plates from the best restaurants found right here in Southern Oregon and a wide selection of local wine as they prepare to dance the night away to Precious Byrd. Wondering which restaurants will be participating? Alchemy Restaurant & Bar at the Winchester Inn, Bambu Restaurant, Belle Fiore, Elements Tapas Bar, Larks Home Kitchen Cuisine, Porters Train Station Restaurant & Bar and Smithfields Restaurant & Bar are some of the fantastic restaurants that will be representing Southern Oregon’s culinary expertise. Guests wander from booth to booth sampling items that the chefs prepare right in front of your eyes, sip wine, spirits and beer and take in the social event of the season. If you find a favorite chef or dish, visit it as many times as you like. And this all occurs at Centennial Golf Club, outdoors under the stars at night while raising money for local charities. Once you purchase your ticket to The Feast, you can sample as much of the culinary delights, wine, spirits and beer (over 21 for alcohol of course) as your heart desires. There is a silent auction full of amazing trips to San Diego, Palm Springs, Cabo San Lucas, Las Vegas, Central Oregon, Lake Tahoe and more, dinners to local restaurants and other packages. The silent auction takes place between 4pm and 8:30pm. You can pre register for the auction with your credit card as you enter the event so there’s no need to bring any cash with you.

A whopping 100 percent of net proceeds will be donated to local charities benefiting the Rogue Valley. The two charities that have been selected for our inaugural event are CASA of Jackson County and Resolve: The Center for Dispute Resolution & Restorative Justice. CASA volunteers are adults from every walk of life who step up to fill a need in a child’s life. Appointed by a judge to be the independent eyes and ears of the court, a CASA volunteer watches over and advocated for a child until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. Resolve’s mission is to transform the way the people and communities of Southern Oregon manage, resolve and heal from conflict. The individuals who make up Resolve are professional mediators, educators and community volunteers who are dedicated to building safer, healthier communities at home, work and at school through conflict resolution education and services. Youth programs work with at-risk children involved with juvenile justice and in K-12 schools for foster safer learning environments through student peer medication and bullying intervention.

Putting together an event of this magnitude would not be possible with the support of the community and the businesses within the Rogue Valley. It is with an enormous amount of gratitude that we are proud to present our 2016 sponsor lineup to date.
