Born and raised in Ashland, Oregon. Dayton Mason has been fascinated and inspired by Jazz music since early childhood. He plays solo, in duets, and a trio all around the Rogue Valley and beyond. Recently, he even opened for the iconic David Grisman for a sold-out crowd at the historic Rogue Theatre. Dayton's passion for learning music started with studying the guitar and bass throughout high school and college, especially in the jazz programs. Dayton recognized the unique qualities of the seldom seen and heard "rare" jazz chords and the songs they accompanied.. The rhythms and arpeggios used in gypsy-jazz took him a step beyond in his interest to learn and apply these musical influences to his own music. Over the years, Dayton joined and led different musical acts of varying styles and toured the U.S. multiple times. Eventually, he realized a constant life on the road was not what he wanted. Fortunately, Dayton found new musical avenues by pursuing recording projects with relaxation/New Age record labels and providing music therapy in clinical healthcare environments. While he continues doing various musical ventures, his passion for gypsy-jazz as his main focus is stronger than ever. For the past few years, Dayton has been working hard making a name for himself in the Southern Oregon and Northern California regions, playing over 250 shows last year alone.
