Spring '24 Issue - Best Of Winners Announced & More
ScienceWorks will be hosting “Creepy & Crawly: A Family Halloween Celebration” on Saturday, October 28, 2017. The museum will have Halloween-themed activities and demonstrations all day during normal operating hours, 10AM - 5PM. All activities and demonstrations are included in the price of general admission and membership to the museum.
The day’s activities will start with Story Drama at 10:30AM, featuring the book "Bring Me A Rock" by Daniel Miyares. Story Drama is a new monthly interactive reading program offered by ScienceWorks for children ages 4-7, and features an engaging, participatory half-hour program of storytelling and acting by staff, volunteers and the young audience members.
At 1:00PM, a Costume Parade and Contest will take place on the plaza of ScienceWorks (weather permitting; inclement weather location: Main Exhibit Hall). A judging panel of local dignitaries, staff, Board of Director members, Science Advisory Board members, and volunteers will select winners based on age groups (Ages 0-6 and 7-12), theme (Best Monster, Best Superhero, etc) and Crowd Favorite. Prizes will be awarded, and are donations from ScienceWorks’ Explore Store and local businesses.
At 2:00PM, representatives from Wildlife Images Rehabilitation & Education Center will present “Not-So-Creepy Animals,” from their educational outreach animals. Animals present may include but are not limited to: Insects, including Madagascar hissing cockcoaches; reptiles, including snakes; arachnids, including tarantulas; and birds of prey, including raptors. (Final selection is subject to change at Wildlife Images’ discretion.)
Also during the day, several hands-on activities will be accessible and available for families, including: a DIY Slime & Goo station; Glowbugs, small “bugs” assembled from common office supplies which demonstrate an electrical circuit in action; and Franken-toy Take Apart, a toy disassembly and re-assembly activity that encourages visitors to break toys and rebuild them according to their imagination.
